If you want to meet someone who is bursting with joy, energy, and a smile that lights up a whole room - look no farther than Jean Martyn!
Jean was born into a musical family. Her life has been a phenomenal rollercoaster since becoming a finalist in Britain’s got Talent in 2011.
Music has been her life since the age of three playing music on the piano at home, by the time she was fifteen she had passed all grades for piano and at 21 obtained two degrees.
Jean is an Associate of Trinity College London for piano and a Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music for the organ.
She was tutored in jazz by the late great Johnny Dankworth and with her classical training she is very competent when playing classical, jazz and many other types of music. It is as though music flows through her veins when her fingers touch the keys.
Jean also studied drama and appeared in several television programmes as a supporting artist including Howards Way and Boon and more recently Love and Marriage with Alison Steadman.
Jean taught music at Primary level eventually joining the staff of a Middle school where she was Head of a music department for many years. In addition to teaching, Jean also toured the concert scene performing to people who owned electronic organs and keyboards. Alongside her teaching career Jean went out of her way to raise thousands of pounds for various charities raising huge amounts of money in the region of £60,000.
Jean Martyn is a power house, when she
decides to do something she‘ll do just that and her smile smooths the way
forward. After all you wouldn’t reach the finals of BGT out of 60,000
entrants if you hadn’t got something special and Jean’s definitely got
The great British public took her to their hearts when she rocked the BGT audience on her keyboard, but there is a lot more depth to her than that. Jean performs classical pieces such as Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody and Rachmaninoffs Second Piano concerto for example with such compassion and skill.
Jean is a Staffordshire lass, and has never forgotten her roots. Despite her success since BGT, she is just like the girl next door. Following the finals Jean went on tour and performed at the NIA, O2, Wembley and all major Arenas throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Following the tour Jean was invited to St James’s Palace to accompany Dame Vera Lynn and perform to the war veterans of the Not Forgotten Association. Jean has been introduced to senior members of the Royal family including HRH Princess Anne, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and Prince Edward. Jean has been invited to Buckingham Palace on five occasions and performed in the Speakers’ private residence at the Houses of Parliament. Rubbing shoulders with celebrities, attending Premiers, entertaining young and old alike, Jean takes it all in her stride.
Jeans’ success over the past seven years has been mainly due to her partner Bob, who in October 2014 became her husband. With his love and support she has lived the dream. Not only is Jean a performer but she also composes music, and her recent composition was a theme tune to an internet live show for Sun Bingo Having a Ball where she is musical director. Jean also stars in the show alongside Rustie Lee, Chico, Christopher Biggins and Russell Grant to name just a few.
Not long ago, Jean released two new CDs one called “We need a little Christmas” and hot off the press “The Best of Jean.” Both recordings feature piano, organ and keyboards providing a mixed compilation of easy listening.
Jean joined Philip Schofield during his 24 hour challenge performing a medley to keep him awake at 1:15am!
Other appearances have included performing on a pipe organ, grand piano and keyboard on Songs of Praise with Aled Jones, on stage at Drury Lane Theatre to the cast of Shrek with Amanda Holden who was playing Princess Fiona and the most recent accolade was another invitation to Buckingham Palace. Jean has the Royal crest on her website having performed in Royal households, including the private residence of the Duke of Westminster.
Jean was hugged by Ant and Dec, liked by Simon Cowell, and gained the title of National Treasure. What more can a girl want?
